Here's a growing collection of Moon shots, I was able to do 6 consecutive days of imaging between April 22 - 26 2015 because weather has been favorable. Hope to take more in the coming days.

While driving up the valley on our way to school (valley golf, Penny Lane, Antipolo) we spotted this bird foraging the road and quickly grabbed the camera, We used our car as camo, I drove passed the bird then backed up slowly. It's awesome that birds have gotten used with the shape of vehicles that it's not that much of a threat to them anymore.

There were lots of clouds yesterday, I guess marking the start of the rainy season. Gloomy and humid weather at the high thirties. There wasn't much light for good exposures. But I was able to take a couple of pictures of kingfishers who i think are permanent residents of valley golf already.

This is the closest I have gotten to them and from this sortie I learned a couple things:

1. Approach them very slowly. No sudden movements.
2. Stop and Go. Move then stop (when you stop for a while they will forget where you are)
3. They have good hearing, they can hear the reflex of the camera shutter even from a couple meters away.
4. They have very good vision, of course..they are hunters.
Very agile flyer and glider. I love watching them ride the wind. They almost go stationary mid-air! It is so hard to photograph them while perched but if you do, you have to be quick. They always hang-out in flocks of more than two. They catch insects mid-air.

These birds are very loyal to us humans. Most of them have become dependent to us, like the ones in these pictures, they are homing pigeons. You can bring them anywhere and expect them to navigate back home. They were used as messengers in early times. I don't think many of us have gone this close to them. My hope is that these pictures will give you the feeling. They are very gentle yet smart!

If you do not know this bird, you are either colossally dumb, blind or just apathetic. They have adapted to live near humans, city birds they call them, and can be found just about anywhere in the world. Taken by my lovely wife who loves birding too. I am teaching her to expose manually and maybe later on she'll allow me to buy a 1D and a 100-400mm L IS lens with 1.4x and 2x teleconverters so we can both take pictures. Hehe.

and a DOG!

Flea? Flee? ..Whatever! Both spelling is related to him. You flee if he gets out of the gate and I am sure he has 'em in her body (explains hes "gentleness"). This Bethesda dog "love" me and I "love" her too..hope he accepts the Lord someday. I heard he also hates Toby Huyssen!
I was expecting to not have any time to shoot today. But around sunset at Bethesda, right before pressing the doorbell to go to rehearsals, I saw this beautiful brown shrike right on the wire. Quickly pulled my camera out and just shot away.

This is by far the most beautiful avian picture I have ever made, the time was perfect, golden hour they call it. This bird can hear the reflex of the shutter of my camera.
Taken using the celestron 4se, EOS 450D. Seeing condition were not that good, shot through an open area in the back of my house. I only had a 30min window for imaging and I am glad this is better than what I took last year February.

For some reason, celestron tracked pretty good.Dennis Llantehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07376888520033080389noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1762813229394170286.post-53286847808769330372013-04-30T11:45:00.002+08:002013-04-30T19:56:02.921+08:00avian photography april 30, 2013

I heard a new bird sound this morning at school so I brought out my camera, I knew it was something different, this bird was being chased by a swallow and he landed on this fence and I was able to take a photo of him.

I am not sure what kind of bird it is or maybe it's someones pet or something, but I saw another one fly passed my position so they might be breeding or something.

7:55PM edit: I thnk this is some sort of yellow parrot.
I also spotted a rare bird! Flight RA-82047

(confirmed here http://www.flightradar24.com/data/airplanes/volga-dnepr-airlines-vda)

I love anything and everything that flies! (controlled flight, that is!)

Today was the first day for me to see a russian heavy lifter plane, It was the Antonov AN-124-100 from the Volga-Dnepr airlines.I kind of know how most of the planes sound when they passby.

I can hear differences between airbuses, 747s, C-130s, ATR turbo props and small planes. Of course this one sounded way different than the normal ones so it got my attention.

With the four Ivchenko Progress D-18T turbofans spewing out 229.5 kN (51,600 lbf) each. It sounded louder and meaner than 747s (which is always the loudest).

Elegant Tits (Pardaliparus Elegans) are endemic to the Philippines, bringing my endemic photo collection to two. Saw them for the first time at Springs of Living Water Bethesda garden today (Antipolo). I set up expecting only to see Eurasian sparrows and Sunbirds, but I heard a different sound. Something I have not heard before, then I checked out the treetops and found these yellow 10cm long birds actively moving around from branch to branch, it was really hard to photograph them with my all manual setup. I had neck pains after taking pictures of them for an hour. It was all worth it though!
I also saw a Crow do a flyby, a grass bird and off course sparrows. Also saw a V formation of around a hundred birds at around 1000ft AGL but was not able to take a picture of it. I am assuming they are egrets moving northbound.
After just two days of shooting, I can now distinguish three bird sounds, that of the Kingfishers, orioles and of the sunbirds. I know when they're around and I can get ready, although Orioles are too elusive.

Crows are unmistakable when you hear them, though i have yet to take photos of them. They always would keep their distance.
Here is my first take on bird photography. I noticed that there has been an increase in the number of species just around the valley, where I work. In one seating, you can observe bulbuls, kingfishers, orioles, shrikes, fantails, sunbirds, white-eyes, egrets and of course sparrows..and many more.
